After winning the Carrera Pan Americana road race in 1951 with two Ferrari 212 E's Ferrari returned in 1952 with three coupes designed specifically for the Mexican Road Race. The Ferrari 340 Mexico featured in this painting is chassis #0226 AT which was driven by Grand Prix World Champion and winner of the 1951 Carrera, Albert Ascari. His Co-Pilot was Ferrari mechanic Giuseppi Scotuzzi. The pair failed to complete the first leg of the race, crashing and rolling the coupe only 92 miles into the race. Luigi Chinetti managed a third place finish in 340 Mexico #0022 AT behind the mighty 300 SL's entered by Mercedes-Benz. Following the race #00226 AT was rebuilt by Ferrari and later sold to Carroll Shelby who finished 1st over in the 1953 SCCA Offutt Air Force Base Race in the car..
