This print is a celebration of the real thing, dry lakes racing in southern California in the late 1940’s. 707C’s best time was 141.95 mph, July 1949 at a SCTA meet at El Mirage. Hop Up Magazine recently did a very nice feature on the Jim Khougaz roadster which is currently owned by Mark Van Buskirk. The grainey black and white photos used in the feature are the same ones that Mark sent me when he commissioned me to do the painting. Turning those old black and white photos into an accurate and believable full color painting was a real challenge.
