Driven by Lee Wallard the Belanger Special was the winner of the 1951 Indianapolis 500. It was powered by a 4cyl 241 Offy. Built by Frank Curtis, Lujie Lesovosky, Eddie Kuzma, and George Salih this car was originally intended to be primarily used as a dirt track car. Mobil was the official supplier of gasoline for Indy and the top three cars in 1951 used Mobil oil. Wallerd was injured in a sprint car accident shortly after Indy and Tony Bettenhausen took over to win 8 of 13 championship races with this car, to become the AAA National Champion.
